PAWLING WINS PAIR; GOES INTO CT “PAUSE”

The Pawling Squirt Team had a successful final set of games last weekend, where they recorded 2 wins as they go into the Governor Lamont’s Executive Order where he puts a “Pause” on all hockey games in the state until January 19th.  On Saturday, the team traveled to Simsbury, CT, where they took on the CT Northern Lights Girls Maroon Team.  The team put together a solid 36-minute effort and ultimately won the game 5-1.  Pawling was led by Tyler Gendron and Jack Waldorf, who both had 2 goals each.  Also, in the game, Pawling’s James Nagle recorded a goal and an assist, Christian Baier had 2 assists, and Hailey Weis added an assist. Pawling’s goalie Liam Cody did not see much action on the day, but he went on to tell the team that “I had the best seat in the building to watch the offense score.”

On Sunday, Pawling had a great match up against the CT Northern Lights Girls Silver Team, a team that was ranked right next to them in the CHC Hockey Standings.  The game saw Pawling holding the lead 3-2 going into the third period.  In the end, Pawling proved to be too much on this day as Pawling scored 5 goals in the third to win 8-4.  Pawling’s Waldorf scored 5 goals, Baier added 2, and Gendron had one.    The Tosto brothers of Luca and Sebastian both recorded assists on the scoresheet for Pawling.    The assist was Sebastian Tosto’s first point of the season.  Liam Cody recorded 12 saves for Pawling to claim the victory.  The coaching staff was proud of the progress the team has made over the last 3 months and was disappointed that the team had to “Pause” as they were starting to hit their stride!  Pawling capped its victorious weekend with some celebratory team photos!

PAWLING SUFFERS 2 LOSSES OVER WEEKEND

Pawling Squirts played on both Saturday and Sunday over this past weekend.  On Saturday, Pawling took the ice against a tough CT Jr Whalers 2010 A Team, a team that would swarm the puck and take away all of the space on the ice.  The Jr Whalers would jump off to a hot start by scoring 5 goals in the first period, then 4 in the second, and 4 in the third.  They would go on to win the game with a final score of 13-1.  Tyler Gendron was the lone scorer for Pawling when he followed up his original shot and would score off of the loose rebound halfway through the second.   Pawling’s goalie Liam Cody made 10 saves in the losing effort for Pawling.

On Sunday, Pawling played another tough hockey team against the Putnam Panthers, one of their local rivals.  Putnam would gain the early lead scoring 3 goals in the first period.  Early in the second, Pawling’s Gia Ziccolella passed the puck to defenseman Christian Baier, who would lead an end to end rush scoring Pawling’s only goal of the game.  The assist was Ziccolella’s first point of the season.  Putnam would eventually put the game away in the second scoring another 3 goals.  The final would end 6-1 in favor of Putnam.  Pawling’s goalie, Cody would again hang strong in between the pipes for Pawling making multiple great saves to keep Pawling in the game.

WALDORF, GENDRON LEAD PAWLING TO VICTORY

Bridgeport, CT - Pawling Youth Hockey Squirt B (u10) played their third game of the season on Sunday (11/8) at Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport, CT.  Pawling got off to a slow start Sunday afternoon against a resilient Wonderland Wizards team when Pawling found themselves down 2-0 within the first 2 minutes of the game.  Pawling defensemen Jack Waldorf stood strong to score the next three goals of the game, including one in the first and two at the beginning of the second period to put Pawling up 3-2.  Wonderland then tied the game at 3 halfway through the second period.  James Nagle then took a pass from Hailey Weis to put Pawling up 4-3 going into the third period.  Both teams exchanged goals within the first 20 seconds of the period.  Wonderland scored 9 seconds in, when Tyler Gendron countered and scored his first of the game giving Pawling the advantage.  After another Wonderland goal, Gendron scored off a pass from Peter Savino for Pawling to regain the lead 6-5.  Wonderland would later tie the score at 6 with 4:23 remaining in the third.  With the game tied, Pawling’s Nagle gained control of the puck on the right end boards in the offensive zone and found Gendron standing in front of the Wonderland net where he would give Pawling the lead for the final time with 2:22 remaining in the game.  Pawling defenseman Christian Baier capped off the scoring with a late end to end rush that started in his own defensive zone and would eventually beat the Wonderland goalie to add the insurance goal for Pawling’s win.  Waldorf and Gendron both had hat tricks in the game and the points for Weis, Savino and Baier were their first of the season. The Pawling goaltender, Liam Cody, had another solid effort for Pawling, including some big saves in the first to keep the game close.

NAGLE SCORES FIRST; GAME WINNING GOAL IN THIRD

NORWICH, CT - Pawling Youth Hockey Squirt B (u10) was back in action on Sunday (11/1) for an early morning game in Norwich, CT.  The team won their first game of the season by a score of 5-3.  James Nagle picked the right time to score his first goal as a Squirt which would turn out to be the game winning goal.  The Pawling team got off to another hot start with 2 goals in the first by defenseman Jack Waldorf.  Pawling led 2-0 after 1.  The Seahawks came out fast in the second cutting the lead in half at the 10:37 mark.  Four minutes later, Pawling’s Tyler Gendron took a pass from Finn Vaccaro and put home his own rebound.  The Seahawks would go on to score late in the second cutting Pawling’s lead to 3-2 going into the third period.  It didn’t take Pawling long to regain the two-goal advantage when Nagle found the back of the net 59 seconds into the frame for the eventual game winner.  On the goal, Pawling held strong on the offensive blueline, with Gendron coming up with the puck and finding Nagle crashing hard to the net all alone.  Waldorf scored his third of the game for Pawling midway through the third, where he crashed hard to the net and scored off the loose rebound as Pawling’s power play was expiring.  The Seahawks would mount an attack scoring their third goal of the game with 5:28 remaining, but the Pawling offense proved to be too much on this morning.  Pawling received another solid effort by their goaltender Liam Cody recording 13 saves and came up with some timely saves in the second and third periods.  Peter Savino and Johnny Strehle made their debuts for the Pawling team.

A special thank you goes out to the SoLu Broadcasting and the Seahawks organization for providing a live video and play by play feed for the family members that could not be in attendance.  The players were excited to re-watch the broadcast at their leisure.
